"Atheism is the opiate of the mass-less."--Tim Opper
(Yes, I just quoted myself!)
Religious views? Yeah, I have some of those!
Here are some websites that I endorse, and you can look into them yourself
via your personal home computer and a modem! (Man, that sounded really lame!)
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH This site (at www.vatican.va) is the official 6-language website of all
things "Catholicesque". I am Catholic, and I don't mind saying so. Check it out; you know you want to!
TIMOTHY KELLER is the founding pastor at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City (the church's
website: www.redeemer.com).
His latest book, The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism (Dutton Adult, February 2008;
ISBN 0-525-95049-4; www.thereasonforgod.com) is the most enlightening and thoughtful book I've read
in the last year (and I've gone through about a dozen books since last fall)!
He tackles every objection to Christianity and breaks down every obstacle that could possibly be in the way
of people's hearts to seeing the truth. He does it with respect to nonbelievers, he does it deftly, and he
does it all while being Presbyterian! Zing! I kid.
Today (March 22, 2008--the day before Easter), I listened to a recording he made about the true meaning of
the parable of the Prodigal Son. And I recognized a theme in that story that is also vital to Anthony Burgess'
A Clockwork Orange (the complete version). Both stories make clear that to do good simply by avoiding
doing bad is not good enough (and can even get you into trouble of a different kind)! You have to grow up
for growing up's own sake, and for your own.
THE 14TH DALAI LAMA OF TIBET The Dalai Lama is a pretty kick-ass dude, and he has a lot of very good
advice toward achieving inner serenity. My advice? Go to his official website (at www.dalailama.com), and
get "learnified" about the Buddhist philosophy!
OPERATION CLAMBAKE This site (at www.xenu.net) helps to expose the lies and contradictions of the
mean-spirited and mind-controlling cult known as Scientology. It's just such bad sci-fi, I don't even know
where to begin with that crap! Ahahahahahahahahaha!!!
{{{Something funny I just thought of: if the fake-ass "history" is true, then why do Scientologists not want
people outside of their group to know it? You may be able to copyright an arrangement of text, but not the
events themselves! And have you ever heard of any other religious organization copyrighting their
information--other than to show that a certain edition was printed by them? I challenge anyone to show me
evidence of such a happening (that didn't prove to be a cult)!}}}
I don't know a lot about Operation Clambake (other than what's on their site, and in general internet
references), but I do know that I'm against Scientology for about 700 reasons. (Okay, to be fair, maybe only
a hundred or so.)
If you think it's ironic that I condescendingly condemn Scientology, yet support Catholicism (which is
much-maligned as just another in a tradition of power-tripping religions), then maybe you're exactly the
kind of person who should investigate how diametrically-opposed (and therefore incompatible) the two
beliefs are.
NOT CLOSED-MINDED; NOT LIMITED
I'm deeply interested in the philosophies which are part of other religions, but philosophies and religions
are different things. (Which is why we have different words for them.)
More in this vein to follow!
